Vincent “Vinnie” Fonti Sr, 85, of Verplanck NY passed peacefully on November 18, 2023 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in Kingston, NY. Born in Peekskill, NY in 1938 to Salvatore and Rose (Albanese) Fonti. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Constance Vanderwerker, and son Michael Fonti. Vinnie was raised in Verplanck, graduating from Hendrick Hudson High School before enlisting in the US Army. He started a family with Helen Conklin and during their marriage owned a candy store and a variety store in Peekskill, NY. Vinnie worked for Standard Brands, Fleishmans, Camp Smith, ran a cookie route, and was a bus driver for Hendrick Hudson School District where he was loved by many children. Vinnie was an active member of the Verplanck community and took great joy in attending the Italian Festival each year. You could count on running into him at the Westchester Diner, spending time with friends or flirting with the ladies. He spent much of his time bowling, fishing, skiing, cheering the Yankees and playing the ponies. He was loving and supportive of his family. We will never forget his whistling. He is survived by his sisters Rose Marie Fonti and Patty Shaw, daughter Deborah Lockwood and partner Edward Sheppard, sons Vincent Fonti Jr and partner Mary Hardy, David Fonti and partner Cindy Glicker, grandchildren Robert Lockwood and wife Amber, Stephanie Canute and husband Caleb, David McNally, Kevin Fonti, Dakota Fonti, Randy Cook, and great-grandchildren Olivia, Scarlett, Declan and Tommy. Reposing on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 9:00-11:00 AM at the O’Mara & Carpentieri Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 AM at the St. Patrick’s Church, Verplanck,NY. A private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
