Rolf Hildinger (93) of Croton-on-Hudson, NY passed away on September 3, 2023.
Rolf was born on January 26, 1930, in Welzheim, Germany. Rolf immigrated to the United States in 1952. He served in the United Stated Military during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on December 23, 1955. Rolf was a trained machinist and draftsman and had a career as a Manufacturing Plant Manager. Through the years, Rolf worked in a supervisory capacity for Havahart Traps in Ossining, NY; Avon in Suffern, NY; and FAG Holding Corp in Danbury, CT. Rolf was always well-liked and well-respected in his positions.
Rolf was an active member of his community and attended many Croton Tigers sporting events. Rolf was a member of the Knights of Columbus at the Holy Name of Mary Church in Croton-on-Hudson.
Rolf loved nature and was well-known for studying reptiles and amphibians. He gave numerous talks about frogs and toads. During the sixties and seventies, he could be seen traipsing around ponds throughout Westchester County with his children studying wildlife.
Rolf was a gifted artist and sculpted throughout his life. Rolf created many beautiful and striking figures of people, animals, bicycles, and toys. He won first prize in sculpture numerous times in the Ossining Library Art Show. He also loved to carve palm sized bears out of wood, and these bears became his signature figurine and are enjoyed by many of his lucky friends and family.
Rolf was married twice and had many, many friends. He is survived by his three children, Angelika Hildinger, Rolf Hildinger, and Nora Hildinger and his two grandchildren, Casimir Quinlan and Gabriel Quinlan. Rolf was a hardworking, courageous, interesting, loving man and he touched everyone he encountered. He will be missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held on September 18, 2023 at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Verplanck, NY. Interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery, Croton on Hudson, NY.
