Richard Joseph Armisto, formerly of Verplanck, New York passed away peacefully on May 23, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 14, 1941 to Ida and Sam Armisto. In 2002, he was predeceased by his loving wife Judith, who he was married to for 40 years.
Richard graduated from Pleasantville High School, was a member of the Army National Guard, and worked for the US Post Office before beginning his career as a Pleasantville Police Officer, retiring after 23 years of service. He then moved on to work as a Federal Police Officer stationed at the US Mint at West Point.
Richard was the protector of his family, taking care of everyone and being “the fixer” throughout his life. He was a true gentleman and storyteller that was enjoyed by everyone who crossed his path. Richard was affectionately known as Poppy to his grandchildren, great grandchildren and countless others. He loved his family, the Yankees, hunting, fishing, and a cold Yuengling while sitting on his porch listening to the sounds of nature around him.
Richard is survived by his three daughters, Kelly Baird, (Thomas Baird), Tracey Armisto (Brett Hochron), and Michelle Armisto (Steven Schinder), his grandchildren, Zackary Baird, Carly Baird, Austin Baird, and Samantha Schinder, his great grandchildren Amelia Baird and Beau Baird, his sister Lorraine Jayne (Cecil Jayne) and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his devoted companion Judy Topping.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be announced by his daughters in the near future.
