Molly Johannsen

Molly Johannsen of Verplanck, NY died peacefully with her family by her side on Friday July 1, 2022. She was 84. Molly co-founded the Viking Boat Yard in Verplanck, NY with her husband Fred in 1974. She started and ran her marine supply store there until she was 82. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on November 17, 1937 she was the daughter of Reese and Caroline Bowling.  She is survived by son Einar (Melissa), four beautiful granddaughters, Kami, Paige, Emma and Maggie, and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Fred, and her son Erik, she was predeceased by her brothers Richard, Reese, and Robert Bowling and her sisters Ruth Stevenson, Rose Bowling, and Betsy May Nowak. She will not only be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, but as tough woman who would not put up with nonsense from customers at her business. She loved to tend to her garden on Riverview Ave in Verplanck and walk by the Hudson River. Her favorite thing was watching her granddaughters grow up. She will be missed. A private memorial service will be arranged by the family. In lieu of flowers, please make donation in her memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
