Michael John McMahon

Michael John McMahon (John to family, “Mike” to many friends), age 89, died peacefully on March 4, 2023, surrounded by his family in Cincinnati, OH. John was born in New Rochelle, New York on December 28, 1933, attended Iona Prep, and graduated from Fordham University with both a bachelor’s (1956) and master’s degree (1980) in business. It was while attending Fordham (the first time) that he met his wife Jeanne (nee Davey). They married in 1957, at St. John’s in Kingsbridge, New York while John was serving in the Army at Fort Sam Huston in San Antonio, TX. Upon returning to New York, John and Jeanne started their family and eventually settled in Montrose, New York (1963). John worked at CBS for over 30 years and every work day would leave the house at just the right time to arrive at the train station as the train was pulling in.

Besides his family, vegetable gardening and golf were his passions. He was extremely proud of his four children: Mary Pat (Thomas) Lienhart, Michael McMahon, Thomas (Sharon) McMahon, and James (Jennifer) McMahon. He was especially happy being the grandfather (Poppy) of nine grandchildren – Liam, Kay, Owen, TJ, Kerry, Maggie, John, Charlie, and Jay. He shared many happy childhood memories of living with his brother Patrick, including when they moved and lived to Ireland. John was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Rose, his daughter Susan, and his daughter-in-law Angela. John’s faith was very important to him and he was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Verplanck, New York. After over 55 years in Montrose, John and Jeanne moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, but Montrose, New York will always be home for John.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 1st, 2023, at 1:00pm at St. Boniface Church (1750 Chase Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45223). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of St. Christopher and St. Patrick (3094 Albany Post Road, Buchanan, NY 10511).
