Longtime resident of Buchanan, Mary B. Absenger (nee Kollmeier) passed on March 12, 2021. She was born on January 15, 1924 to Xavier and Elizabeth Kollmeier of Buchanan.She attended local schools and graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in 1942. She worked for Atlantic and Pacific Company in New York City before marrying Charles W. Absenger on October 26, 1947. Mary was a homemaker and in 1985 she and her husband moved to Nokomis, Florida before her returning to Buchanan in 2010. Mary lived at the Danish Home for the Aged, in Croton-on-Hudson until November 2020 and enjoyed all the activities and festivities the Danish Home offered and especially loved playing her repertoire of 6 songs on the piano in the communal living room. While in Florida for 25 years, she was active with bowling, tennis, bridge playing, the American Legion, collecting sea shells, attending live theater at the Venice Playhouse and her love of sunsets, both in Florida and at Steamboat Dock in Verplanck with family and friends.Known for her smile, sweetness and love of family and life, Mary leaves behind a daughter, Eileen of Buchanan, grandson, Michael (Susan), great-grandson, Jake all of Montrose, her brother, Xavier (Zeke) of Buchanan along with a niece and nephews, Kathleen, Kenneth and John. She was predeceased by her husband on May 3, 2006.A mass of Christian burial will be held 10 AM on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at the St. Christopher’s Church in Buchanan.Internment will follow at the St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Verplanck.
