Lawrence James O’Brien, 87, of Montrose, NY, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born on April 16th, 1934 in the Bronx to Frank and Mary O’Brien. Larry was a graduate of All Hallows High School and Villanova University. He is survived by his loving wife Nora P. O’Brien (nee O’Connell) and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Larry spent the majority of his career in sales and management, working 38 years for Reynolds Metals Co. Larry moved to Montrose in 1972 to be closer to family, making it his permanent home. Larry was an avid golfer (playing into his 80’s), fan of the NY Giants and Villanova basketball, and a lover of all things Ireland, especially a cold pint of Guinness. But most of all, Larry loved his family and was present at all events - from track meets to confirmations to birthdays. He was also an accomplished history buff, with a vast knowledge of WWI, WWII, and Gettysburg. He was a role model for us all and lived his life as an exemplary Catholic - strong in faith, generous in spirit and with unending love for all. Larry will be sadly missed by everyone lucky enough to have known him. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to All Hallows High School.
Reposing, O'Mara & Carpentieri Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass, St. Patrick's Church, Verplanck, NY on Saturday 10 AM. Interment, St. Augustine Cemetery, Ossining, NY to follow.
