George "Moe" Earl Merritt Jr.

George Earl Merritt Jr. “Moe” of Buchanan, NY died on July 22, 2023. George was born on October 17, 1945 in Peekskill, NY to George Earl Merritt Sr. and Martha Vandemark. George served in the US Airforce from 1965-1969. George retired as a facilities manager at IBM in Yorktown, NY. He was a Lifetime member of the Buchanan Engine Company #1 and was about to receive his 60 years of membership recognition. George enjoyed spending time with his friends at Glenn’s Tavern, fishing, crabbing, trips to Lake George, marching in parades and the clam bakes at the Buchanan Fire Department. He loved spending time and making his friends and family laugh with his jokes. George is survived by his daughter Sandi, step children, Donna (John) Griffin and Wayne Treptow, grandchildren, Hailey Borath, Brittany Ikram and Justine Griffin, sister, Elaine Gustafson and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marianne and sister, Madeline Stewart. Visitation will be held on Saturday, 12:00-4:00 PM at the O’Mara & Carpentieri Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Buchanan Engine Company #1 ,3159 Albany Post Road, Buchanan, NY 10511.
