Ernestine M. Slaving, a life long resident of Verplanck, NY died peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2022. Ernestine was born in Verplanck, NY on May 5, 1920 to Ernest and Mary (Mackey) Cavallo and was the youngest of five girls. She celebrated her 102nd birthday on Thursday, May 5, 2022. Ernestine graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School and went to work in the Town of Cortlandt Supervisor’s Office in Croton until her retirement. She married Edwin Slaving in 1949 and enjoyed many years with him until his passing in 1976. Ernestine was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick’s Church in Verplanck. She also volunteered at their thrift shop. Ernestine is survived by her three nieces, Elizabeth Robillard, Patricia (Gerald) Cancredi and Mary Lou Henning as well as several great, great great and great great great nieces and nephews. Ernestine was predeceased by her husband, Edwin (Buck), her parents, Ernest and Mary,her four sisters, Adelaide Slack, Rosalie Gilmartin, Jennie Acker and Angeline McGinnis as well as her two nieces, Ann Wheeler and Jacqueline Salicco. Our family would like to give a special thank you to Dottie for the care she gave Aunt Steen over the past two years. Her family will receive friends at the O’Mara and Carpentieri Funeral Home in Verplanck on Sunday, May 15 from 3-7 PM. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 16 at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Verplanck. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
